Shining London

Sun is out, smiles in the air
Diners gladly munching their food
Drinkers delighted, chilled beer
Cheerful waiters, tips increased

Sky is blue, hot in the space
Parks are packed, chat is all around
Girls are tanning, beautiful look
Eyes are peeping, secret pleasure

Shops are busy, summer stuff is needed
Webs are crashing, shoppers bargain
Roads are crowded, walkers surrounding
Bodies are flashing, sun is shining

Flowers are blooming, adore the beauty
Music in the atmosphere, experience it
Summer is here, a few days to appreciate
Love yourself, beauty won’t last long

  1. I loved your poem. It captures a hot day in the city. I have a poem for you.

"Love After Love" by Derek Walcott

    The time will come
    when, with elation,
    you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

    and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

    the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
    Sit. Feast on your life.
